Brad Johnson joined the LIU men’s soccer coaching staff as an assistant coach in February of 2016 after two years as the head coach at John Jay College.
In his three seasons at John Jay, including two as head coach, Johnson coached the Bloodhounds to a number of program highlights. He guided the team to its first playoff win in over a decade in 2015, led by the program’s first-ever Conference Player of the Year, Greysen Carlson. Carlson was also named an ECAC First-Team All-Star under Johnson’s guidance. While at John Jay, the Bloodhounds recorded 13 wins in Johnson’s two seasons, the most for the program in 10 years.
Johnson also coaches with the Manhattan Soccer Club U12-U23 teams, and plays with the NY Greek Americans of the Cosmopolitan League.
A Manhattan native, Johnson played soccer at the collegiate level for the University of Albany, SUNY Cobleskill and Ithaca College. He also has international playing experience in Brazil, Holland, Croatia and England.
Johnson graduated from Ithaca College with a bachelor's degree in psychology. He then attended Brunel University in Middlesex, England and graduated with a master's degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology in 2014.
While in England, Johnson won a National British University Championship title in futsal and qualified for the European Championships and finished 19th in Europe. He also played semi-pro with Hanwell Town FC.
Johnson holds a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Advanced National Goalkeeping diploma, a United States Soccer Federation “D” coaching license, and a NSCAA Level 1 Futsal diploma.
