Cross Country Competes at UAlbany Cross Country Invitational

Albany, N.Y. - The Long Island University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 43rd Annual UAlbany Cross Country Invitational on Saturday afternoon held at the University of Albany. The men's squad ranked 14th among 24 scoring teams in the R.K. Munsey Men's Championship Team Standings for the 8k race. Freshman Rogers Kipruto was the top finisher fo the Blackbirds with a seventh-place finish in a time of 25:18.8. The women's team finished 21st in the Bobby Palma Women's Championship. Senior Selina Munoz completed the 5k race in 18:56.3 to pace the Blackbirds.

Seniors Jason Lakritz and Dan Renahan were close behind Kipruto, finishing 25th and 65th, respectively, among the field of 189 runners. Lakritz posted a time of 25:43.8, while Renahan completed the course in 26:10.6. Freshman William Werner (29:08.3) and junior Vincent Gangemi (29:39.0) rounded out the LIU finishers.

On the women's side, Munoz earned a 54th place finish among 193 competitors. Sophomore Monica Ankello completed the race in 20:40.1 and was followed by senior Desiree Conley (21:01.2). Sophomore Emily Rosario and junior Robin Renahan followed closely with times of 21:33.6 and 21:47.6, respectively. Sophomores Nicolle Franklin (22:05.4) and Tiffany Parker (24:06.4) rounded out the Blackbirds contingent of runners.

The men's and women's cross country squads return to action on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the CCSU Mini Meet in New Britain, Conn. The race will take place in Stanley Quarter Park.
