Track and Field Competes at IC4A/ECAC Championships

Boston, Mass. - The Long Island University men's indoor track and field team competed in the IC4A Championships while the women's team participated in the ECAC Championships on March 7-8 in Boston, Mass. The meet concluded the indoor season for the Blackbirds.

On the men's side, sophomore Corryl Boyd (Waldorf, Md.) finished 10th in the long jump with a leap of 6.93 meters. Freshman Amire Solomon (Wes Islip, N.Y.) had double duty, competing in both the long and triple jumps. Solomon turned in a distance of 6.30 meters in the long jump for 27th and finished 24th in the triple jump with a mark of 14.02 meters.

In the 55-meter dash, senior Andre Marcano (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago) and freshman Nickolei Mahlung (Brooklyn, N.Y.) both had top-25 finishes. Marcano ran a 6.47 while Mahlung finished in 6.55. Sophomore Samuel Egadu (Eastern Uganda) finished the 500-meter dash in a time of 1:04.06 and was followed by senior Sheldon Goffe (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who finished in 1:04.53. The 4x400-meter relay team ran its fastest time of the season in 3:15.70 to take 11th place.

For the women, senior Heather Patton (Bowie, Md.) was fourth in the triple jump by leaping to a distance of 12.30 meters. Freshman Jessie Gaines (Chesapeake, Va.) competed in a trio of events. In the 60-meter hurdles, Gaines finished 11th with a time of 7.65. Gaines was 16th in the long jump (5.45 meters) and 28th in the triple jump (11.09 meters).

Sophomore Danay Spencer (West Babylon, N.Y.) finished the triple jump in ninth with a distance of 11.87 meters. In the 60-meter hurdles, freshman Torrie Saunders (Annapolis, Md.) took 18th in a time of 9.17.

Long Island will begin its outdoor season March 21-22 at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami, Fla.
