Staten Island, N.Y. – The Long Island University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams took part in the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va. and the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas over the weekend. Freshman Amire Solomon garnered two top-five finishes in Williamsburg in the high jump and long jump.
Solomon achieved a distance of 6.93 meters in the long jump and turned in a measure of 14.22 meters in the triple jump for a fourth place finish. In the 200-meter dash, freshman Robert Barnes crossed the finish line in a time of 22.30 to take 17th. Sophomore Kyle Corbett took home a 12th place finish in the 100-meter dash after turning in a time of 10.98. The men finished 12th as a team with seven total points.
On the women's side in Williamsburg, sophomore Danay Spencer led the way with a second place finish in the triple jump. Junior Joyce Atagwe had a fourth place showing in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 12.47. Classmate Ashley Veney took ninth place in the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.25. Freshman Bianca Egalite garnered a distance of 34.50 meters in the discus and achieved a throw of 10.80 meters in the shot put.
At the Texas Relays, senior Heather Patton had dual seventh place finishes in the high and triple jump. In the high jump, the senior cleared a bar of 1.65 meters and in the triple jump she leapt to a distance of 12.27 meters.
The Blackbirds continue their spring schedules at the Wagner Quad Meet on Wednesday April 8 in Staten Island, N.Y.
