, N.C. – The Long Island University track and field squads competed at the NCAA Regional meet on over the weekend on the campus of North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, N.C. The Blackbirds lone point came from senior Heather Patton, who came in eighth place in the triple jump event.
 
In her signature event, Patton took home eighth place after achieving a distance of 12.67 meters. Patton was followed by teammate Danay Spencer who came in 24th with a mark of 11.80 meters.
 
Senior Selina Munoz placed 25th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.18. In the 100-meter hurdles, freshman Jessie Gaines finished in 24th while turning in a time of 14.07. The women's 4x100-meter relay squad ran to a time of 46.05. The team of freshmen Gaines, Torrie Saunders and Jazmin Waller and junior Ashley Veney finished 18th overall.

On the men's side, the quartet of juniors Julius Mutekanga and Eric Tyler, sophomore Samuel Egadu and senior Sheldon Goffe placed 14th in the 4x400-meter relay after running to a time of 3:13.21. Senior Andre Marcano ran to a time of 10.66 in the 100-meter dash prelims to take 22nd overall.
 
The NCAA Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place in Fayetteville, Ark., on June 10-13.
