Northeast Conference Championship Information

Brooklyn, N.Y.
– The Long Island University men's and women's cross country teams are set to wrap up their 2010 campaign at the Northeast Conference Championships on Saturday, Oc at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn.

A number of Blackbirds have had successful individual seasons even if the team has not had the overall success it expected heading into the season. On the men's side, sophomore Chris Welch was in either the first or second spot for Long Island during most of his first season. Welch clocked a season-best 8K time of 29:18 at the UAlbany XC Invitational.

This year's mark is a minute faster than Conley's previous best. Junior Emily Rosario also saw significant time improvements, racing a 21:51 as her season-best time at the Fordham Fiasco, roughly 45 seconds faster than her 2009 best.

Saturday's race also marks the final cross country outing for a number of LIU harriers, including Conley, Robin Renahan, Ashley Veney and Christine Jones. The seniors on the men's squad are Samuel Egadu, Vincent Gangemi, Julius Mutekanga, and Elmo Neckles.
