Track and Field Announces 2011-12 Slate

Brooklyn, N.Y. – Head coach Simon Hodnett and the Long Island University men's and women's track and field teams have announced the 2011-12 schedules for indoor and outdoor track. The lineup includes a number of local and national meets for the Blackbirds.

The indoor season kicks off Dec. 4 at the FDU Patch Meet at the Rothman Center in Teaneck, N.J. The Blackbirds compete six times at the Armory in New York, N.Y. and will compete at the Northeast Conference Championships in Landover, Md. on Feb. 11-12.

The women look to take their third straight indoor team title, and senior standout Jessie Gaines is back to defend her MVP and Most Outstanding Performer awards. The men also finished in the top of the NEC, coming in third.

The outdoor track and field season opens with a to-be-determined meet over spring break, while the Blackbirds head to the Texas Relays on March 28-31. LIU visits NEC rivals Mount St. Mary's and Wagner on March 31 and April 6, respectively. Mount St. Mary's plays host to the NEC Championships on May 5-6.

The Blackbirds were third on the women's side and fifth on the men's during the outdoor season, with Gaines taking a pair of individual crowns and classmate Jazmin Waller putting up key points in the high jump, 200-meter dash and long jump. Junior Wilmot Stubblefield claimed gold on the men's side in the triple jump.
