Final Results
TEANECK, N.J. – The LIU Brooklyn men's and women's track and field teams opened up their season on Sunday at the Fairleigh Dickinson Patch Track Meet, placing in multiple events.
On the men's side, senior Rogers Kipruto finished first in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:40.40, defeating the second-place runner from from Fairleigh Dickinson by 17 seconds.
In the 300-meter dash, senior Chris Welch placed third with a time of 36.30, sophomore Andi Augustin ran a 36.70 to put him in a three-way tie for 5th, and senior Kenneth Wallace-Whitfield finished in ninth place in a time of 37.10.
In the 600-meter run, sophomore Alistar McLean claimed third with a time of 1:26.30. Teammates Jonathan Pineiro and Elijah Taylor placed eighth and ninth with times of 1:29.00 and 1:29.30, respectively.
The women placed first and second in the 300-meter dash. Freshman Ja'mesha Richard picked up the win in 41.90 while classmate Marielena Rivera was close behind at 42.70. Freshman Shanice Grant finished at 43.30 to hold the fifth spot.
The 4x200-meter women's relay team also earned gold with a time of 1:47.50.
In the 55-meter dash, freshman Kyaira Wright-Harmon clocked in at 7.50, which was good for third. Junior Tyler Nelson ran a 1:44.30 in the women's 600-meter run to finished fourth, followed by teammate Tiffany Parker in fifth place at 1:45.00.
Next up for the women and men will be at the Bill Ward Invitational in South Huntington, N.Y. on Dec. 6.
