Brooklyn, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn men's and women's indoor track team has garnered a number of All-Northeast Conference honors, released by the league office Monday. On the women's side, senior Jessie Gaines and freshman Shakia Williams each picked up four nods while junior Nickolei Mahlung and senior Robert Barnes picked up two on the men's.
Gaines set a new NEC Championship record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.51 to earn her first All-NEC First Team nod. She also earned All-NEC First Team for the 60-meter hurdles (8.47), long jump (5.83 meters) and triple jump (12.22 meters).
Williams earned an All-NEC First Team award in the 500-meter dash after racing to a time of 1:15.61. The Chesapeake, Va. product partnered with seniors Jazmin Waller, Charlene Fuller and Kadisha Wickham to earn All-NEC First Team in the 4x400-meter relay. Williams also earned a pair of NEC All-Rookie Team honors in the 200-meter dash (25.09) and the 500-meter dash.
Waller headlines the All-NEC Second Team with a pair of nods for the 200-meter dash (24.84) and the long jump (5.70 meters). Fuller earned a spot on the team as well with a time of 7.64 in the 60-meter dash. Rounding out the women's second team was senior Torrie Saunders, who raced to an 8.66 in the 60-meter hurdles.
Also earning a spot on the all-rookie team was freshman Bryanna Williams, who leapt to a mark of 5.51 meters in the long jump.
On the men's side, Mahlung earned All-NEC First Team honors in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.84. Barnes earned his spot for a 1:04.61 performance in the 500-meter dash. In the jumps, junior Brian Richards saw honors in the long jump (7.10 meters) while senior Amire Solomon took the top spot in the triple jump (14.84 meters).
Junior Jamal Roberts earned All-NEC Second Team honors in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.11, while classmate Wilmot Stubblefield earned a spot on the team in the triple jump with a mark of 14.35 meters. The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Mahlung, Roberts, Barnes and freshman Mikhail Williamson also picked up All-NEC Second Team honors with a time of 3:19.76.
The Blackbirds are in Tampa, Fla. this week set to kick off the outdoor track season on March 16 at the USF Invitational.
