Midlothian, Va. – LIU Brooklyn freshman Brianna Maynard had the best tournament of her college career at the Richmond Spider Invitational on Monday and Tuesday. The Auckland, New Zealand native led the Blackbirds with an eighth place finish, recording scores of 77-77-76.
The best Northeast Conference finisher at the event, Maynard's previous low round was a 79, which she first shot at the 2011 Yale Fall Invitational. Last week's NEC Golfer of the Week, freshman Cristina Felip carded rounds of 81-81-78 to land in a tie for 30th.
Senior Anna Palsson finished tied for 55th, knocking in rounds of 78-87-85. Freshman Alice Boothroyd shot her lowest score of the tournament on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 58th, while senior Julia Rappa also competed for the Blackbirds.
As a team, LIU finished in tenth in a highly competitive field. St. John's took the top team and individual spot, with Harin Lee earning the gold.
The women's golf team is back in action March 31 and April 1 for the MU Hawk Invitational in Lakewood, N.J.
