PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Sophomore Marisol Doglioli carded a one-under par round of 71 and tied for second individually at the Rutgers Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. Doglioli led the LIU Brooklyn women's golf team to a fourth-place finish, just one stroke behind BIG EAST member St. John's.
After shooting a team-best 76 on day one, Doglioli shaved five strokes off her first-round score and tied for the top round of any individual in the tournament. Delaware's Amanda Terzian, who tied with Doglioli in second place, was the only other player in the field of 113 to finish a round during the two-day event under par.
Doglioli carded three birdies, 13 pars and just two bogeys on Tuesday, and closed the 36-hole tournament with an impressive 4.70 stroke average (-3 overall) on par-5 holes to lead the tournament. She also finished with a 3.10 stroke average (+1) on par-3 holes - tied for fourth-best in the field - and her six birdies ranked her fourth individually.
Despite her impressive round, last season's Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year came up just short of catching first-round leader Erin McClure who shot a second straight round of 73 to earn a one-stroke victory.
Junior Cristina Felip joined her teammate in the top 10 as she tied for eighth place at 152. Felip's 36-hole effort consisted of 24 pars, which ranked fifth individually, and a 4.13 stroke average (+2) on par-4 holes which was good for fourth. The duo of Doglioli and Felip helped the team take 10 shots off its first-round score to shoot 304 on the day and 618 for the tournament.
Felip's classmate Brianna Maynard improved by three strokes on her first-round score and tied for 25th at 157, while sophomore Victoria Fagan also bested her score from Monday by three strokes and closed in a tie for 65th. Junior Alice Boothroyd tied for 68th while senior Cristina Reynoso closed in a tie for 76th.
Delaware placed three golfers in the top five individually, including the medalist McClure, and took home a five-shot team win over Seton Hall at 603.
LIU Brooklyn concludes its fall season at the Delaware Invitational on Oct. 26-27.
