EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - Three LIU Brooklyn women's golfers recorded top-10 finishes and the Blackbirds finished third as a team at the St. John's Invitational on Tuesday.
LIU improved on its first-round score by 10 shots to total 634, four strokes behind second-place Siena. The Red Storm earned a 13-stroke team victory thanks in large part to medalist Rachel Carpenter (75-75=150).
Sophomore Marisol Doglioli tied for sixth after shooting consecutive rounds of 78 to lead the Blackbirds, while juniors Alice Boothroyd and Brianna Maynard tied for eighth at 157.
LIU excelled on the par-4 holes, averaging 4.42 strokes to finish second in the field behind team champion St. John's (4.39). The Blackbirds carded 13 birdies as a team over two rounds, six of which came from Boothroyd who ranked second behind Siena's Victoria Nguyen individually.
Maynard led LIU Brooklyn and the 66-player field with 23 pars, and the team registered 87 total to place third behind St. John's and Siena (91 each).
Junior Cristina Felip improved on her first-round score by six strokes to finish in a tie for 22nd, and carded four birdies over her two rounds to tie for eighth in the field. Sophomore Victoria Fagan shaved a pair of strokes off her day-one total and rounded out the LIU contingent in a tie for 44th.
LIU Brooklyn continues its fall season on Oct. 14-15 at the Rutgers Invitational.
