Brendon Rodney

Track & Field Opens Up 2013-14 Season with Two Meets This Weekend

The Blackbirds return a number of strong performers from last season, including several members of the All-NEC teams.

On the men's side, Brendon Rodney looks once again to be a top competitor for LIU Brooklyn. Rodney became the first male indoor track athlete to represent the Blackbirds at the NCAA Championships and the only athlete, male or female, from the Northeast Conference. He earned second-team All-America honors after placing 13th in the 200-meter dash. Rodney was also named to the indoor All-NEC first team.

Also back for the Blackbirds is Mica-Jonathan Petit-Homme and Alistar McLean. Petit Homme was named the Most Outstanding Rookie after the NEC Indoor Championships for his winning performance in the 500-meter dash. McLean was right behind him in second place during the meet, good enough for second team All-Conference honors.

LIU Brooklyn also returns several experienced seniors, including Stephen Busceme, Kervin Morgan and Eric Williams.

The women have several returners from last year's indoor All-NEC teams, including Ja'Mesha Richard. Richard was named the NEC's Most Outstanding Rookie after last year's indoor championships as she won titles in the 60-meter hurdles and 60-meter dash, and was named All-NEC.

Katrina Anderson was another indoor champion for the Blackbirds in 2013, after winning the 500-meter dash. Anderson earned All-NEC first team honors for her efforts as well.

The Blackbirds will also be aided by All-NEC second-team indoor honorees Kyaira Wright-Harmon, Bryanna Williams and Alea Stevens and Josephine Watson. Wright-Harmon placed second in the high jump and earned a spot on the All-Rookie squad, while Williams was the second-place finisher in the 60-meter dash. Williams, Stevens, Watson and Anderson were also all part of the silver medalist 4x400 relay team.

The Blackbirds next return to action in the New Year when they compete at the Metropolitan Indoor Championships on January 4 at The Armory.
