First Round Results
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The LIU Brooklyn women's golf team had four of its members shoot 78 or better and hold an eight-stroke lead after the first day of the Northeast Conference Championship, which was held at the LPGA International Legends Course on Friday. Sophomores Cristina Felip and Brianna Maynard each shot 75 to lead the Blackbirds to team total of 304. Fairleigh Dickinson stands in second place heading to the second day after shooting 312.
The defending NEC individual champion Felip started off strong and made the turn at even-par 36 following nine holes. The Barcelona, Spain native carded two birdies, three bogeys and a single double-bogey on her round to sit in a tie for fourth overall.
Maynard's first 18 holes featured a team-high three birdies, four bogeys and a double at the par-4 13th hole. Both Felip and Maynard are four shots off the pace set by FDU's Mariana Juaristi who fired a one-under par 71 to take the lead heading into day two.
Also performing solidly for the Blackbirds were sophomore Alice Boothroyd and freshman Marisol Doglioli. Boothroyd carded a four-over par 76 to stand in sixth place individually, while Doglioli is tied for 10th at 78. Freshman Victoria Fagan is tied for 35th after her opening-round 87.
The second round of the 2013 NEC Women's Golf Championship will take place on Saturday, Apr. 27 beginning at 8:00 a.m. The Blackbirds will tee off on the first tee at 8:50 a.m.
