Second Round Results
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The LIU Brooklyn women's golf team remained atop the team leaderboard after the second day of the Northeast Conference Championship on Saturday. Four Blackbirds are in the top 10 individually and helped increase their lead to 17 strokes entering the final round on Sunday.
LIU has totalled 616 over two rounds, while Sacred Heart moved into second place after matching LIU's second-round score of 312 (633 overall). Fairleigh Dickinson, after finishing round one eight strokes behind the Blackbirds, fell to third place at 636.
Sophomore Alice Boothroyd fired the low round by any individual on Saturday with a two-over par 74, and is one stroke behind tournament leader Mariana Juaristi of Fairleigh Dickinson at 150. Freshman Marisol Doglioli finished her second 18 holes with a three-over par score of 75 and is tied for third with two other golfers at 153.
Boothroyd parred her first five holes on the day before bogeying four straight and making the turn at 40. The North Yorkshire, England product regrouped, and collected three more pars to start her back nine before back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes. Boothroyd finished her round with four straight pars, and recorded an impressive two-under par 34 on the second nine of her round.
Doglioli had a team-high three birdies on her round, including two straight on the second and third holes to start her day in style. Over the first two days, Doglioli has five birdies and has just one double-bogey or worse in 36 holes.
Sophomore Brianna Maynard stands in seventh position following her round of 80, while classmate Cristina Felip struggled on the second day but remains tied for 10th at 158. Despite tough scoring conditions, freshman Victoria Fagan improved on her first-round score by a stroke and is in 41st position for the tournament.
The third and final round of the 2013 NEC Women's Golf Championship will take place on Sunday, Apr. 28 beginning at 8:00 a.m. LIU Brooklyn will tee off from the first hole at 8:50 a.m.
