NEW HAVEN, Conn. - After finishing in fourth place at its season opener at Towson, the LIU Brooklyn women's golf team returns to action this weekend at the Yale Invitational. Hosted by the No. 15-ranked team in the country, the Blackbirds will be one of 18 teams in the field for the 54-hole event.
At Towson, LIU was led by junior Brianna Maynard who tied for 13th individually at 157. Sophomore Victoria Fagan tied for 19th at 160 while juniors Alice Boothroyd and Cristina Felip were one stroke behind Fagan at 161.
The Blackbirds shot rounds of 316 and 322 en route to a tie for fourth as a team with Northeast Conference rival Saint Francis U. Two other NEC schools participated in the event - Central Connecticut (8th) and Fairleigh Dickinson (T-9th).
Designed by champion golfer and co-founder of the USGA Charles Blair Macdonald, the three-day tournament will take place at the par-70 6,044-yard Yale Golf Course. The course has consistently been voted the number one college golf course in America.
