BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn men's and women's track and field teams compete again this weekend with two meets at The Armory.
The Blackbirds begin the weekend with the Great Dane Classic on Friday, Jan. 17, before returning for the NYU Saturday Night Shootout the following day on Jan. 18.
LIU Brooklyn is coming off a successful outing at the Gotham Cup last Friday. Kyaira Wright-Harmon won the high jump with a mark of 1.70m, while Katrina Anderson took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.83. Bryanna Williams also earned a spot on the podium with her third place finish in the long jump.
For the men, Vinh Le took fourth place in the triple jump with a leap of 14.00m. Freshman Adam Walker-Khan also had a strong showing with a sixth place finish in the long jump at 7.18m. His mark ranks him first in the Northeast Conference performance lists, and earned him NEC Rookie of the Week honors.
In addition to Walker-Khan, several other Blackbirds are ranked well within the conference. Brendon Rodney's time of 49.08 at the Bill Ward Invitational in the 400-meter dash is first in the league, while Alistair McLean is also first in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:04.68. Mica-Jonathan Petit-Homme is not far behind in second at 1:04.73, while Kervin Morgan is fourth with 1:05.71. Le's mark last Friday in the triple Jump puts him second on the list in his respective event, while Walker-Khan is fourth in the 400-meter dash.
For the women, Shanice Grant is ranked first in the NEC with a time of 8.67, while Ja'Mesha Richard is fourth at 8.94. Wright-Harmon now owns the second spot in the high jump after last week, while Grant is tied for third at 1.65m. Williams is now also ranked second in the long jump, while Anderson's time in the 800-meter run at the Gotham Cup puts her third in the league. Anise Cuffee ranks second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.73, while Josephine Watson is third in the 200-meter dash at 25.35.
LIU Brooklyn continues its busy month, as the teams travel to Boston, Mass. for the Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University from Jan. 23-25, before returning back to New York on the last day of January for the Metropolitan Championships.
