MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The LIU Brooklyn women's soccer team had a number of opportunities over the final ten minutes of the second half but could not come up with the equalizer in a 1-0 loss to Robert Morris on Friday afternoon. Madison Kozlowski scored the lone goal of the match for the Colonials, who fended off four shots down the stretch to give the Blackbirds their second loss of the Northeast Conference season.
Kozlowski's tally came in the 17th minute of action as she chipped a shot over the head of LIU (4-11-0, 2-2 NEC) goalkeeper Jessica Montrose off a feed from Greer Monahan. The best chance for the Blackbirds in the first half came from sophomore Madison Gomez, who rifled a hard shot in the 39th minute that was saved by Francesca Springer. The evenly-played first half saw each team record five shots while LIU Brooklyn had the lone corner kick of the period.
The 64th minute saw RMU (3-11-2, 1-2-1 NEC) nearly double its lead but an attempt from Kasia Bak glanced off the crossbar. Minutes later, juniors Mariana Ruas and Lucy Gunton-Jones each had chances to score but came up short.
Redshirt senior Jen Spicer had the best opportunity of the second half for the Blackbirds in the 81st minute as her header hit off the far post and out. Moments later, Spicer had another go but missed wide. In the final minutes of regulation, Gomez had an attempt saved by Springer and redshirt senior Caroline Kaplan fired a shot that missed wide.
Montrose finished with four saves for the Blackbirds, who continue NEC play on Sunday, Oct. 19 against Saint Francis U. in a rematch of the last four league tournament title contests.
