SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Sophomore Madison Gomez scored her seventh goal of the season to give the LIU Brooklyn women's soccer team a 1-0 lead over Bryant in the 55th minute. But four unanswered goals from the Bulldogs ripped the lead away from the Blackbirds and gave the home team a 4-1 win on Friday afternoon.
LIU goalkeeper Jessica Montrose kept LIU in the match in the first half with five saves, and had five more stops in the second half to close the contest with 10 overall. Gomez, redshirt senior Jen Spicer and sophomore Jenn Peters each had three shots to lead the Blackbirds.
After a scoreless first half, Gomez found the back of the net less than 10 minutes into the second as she pounced on a loose ball in front of goal and rifled a shot past Kaylan Conrad.
The lead held up for over 20 minutes, before Kianna Woods scored to knot the contest up in the 75th minute. Less than two minutes later, another goal from Bryant's Haley Reddish gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.
Two more goals from the home team in the 82nd and 89th minutes accounted for the final margin of victory. Conrad closed with six saves, while Bryant won the shot battle by a 29-13 difference.
