SOUTH HUNTINGTON, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Bill Ward Invitational, hosted by St. John's this past Monday.
The Blackbirds had three members of the women's team qualify for finals in the 60-meter dash. Anise Cuffee clocked in at 7.73, 0.01 out of first place. Bryanna Williams and Josephine Watson were close behind in fourth and fifth place, running to times of 7.75 and 7.78, respectively.
Nichole Candelaria won the 500-meter run in 1:17.82, while Alea Stevens was fourth in 1:18.43. In the 800-meter run, Esther Jean-Louis placed seventh overall in 2:30.79.
In the field events, Bianca Miller was fourth in the shot-put with a throw of 11.08m, while Niteesa Brooks was fifth in the weight throw at 13.30m.
On the men's side, LIU took second through fifth place in the 60-meter dash. The Blackbirds were led by Tyler Cue, who ran to a time of 6.94, while Tyquan Dukes was 0.01 back at 6.95.
Garvey Moore was the top Blackbird finisher in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.63 and a seventh place finish, while Airrin Davis and Elijah Taylor placed fifth and sixth in the 500-meter run. Andi Augustin was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:03.62.
The Blackbirds compete next in 2015, when they head to State College, Pa. for the Penn State Relays on Jan. 10.
