BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's golf team opens up its spring season this week with two events on the West Coast. The Blackbirds will take part in the Bucknell Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. from March 9-11, before heading to San Diego for a tri-match with Central Connecticut and Seton Hall.
LIU Brooklyn is coming off of a successful fall season that saw the Blackbirds earn three top-five finishes, including a third-place showing at the St. John's Invite.
The team was picked unanimously to earn its third straight Northeast Conference championship in the preseason coaches' poll and returns its entire lineup which includes four all-conference performers.
During the fall season, the Blackbirds also had success in individual play. Reigning NEC Rookie of the Year and All-NEC first team member Marisol Doglioli posted three top-10 finishes, including a tie for second at the Rutgers Invitational.
Junior Brianna Maynard, an All-NEC second team pick a year ago, tied for 13th at the Towson Tiganelli Invitational and helped the team to a fourth-place finish. She also tied for eighth at the St. John's Invitational.
Junior Alice Boothroyd, another second team All-NEC honoree, tied eighth at the St. John's Invite, while junior Cristina Felip's best finish came at the Yale Intercollegiate, where she tied for 13th. Felip was named to the All-NEC first team in 2013. Sophomore Victoria Fagan put together a top-20 showing at the Towson Invitational, while senior Cristina Reynoso will also add experience.
After returning home from spring break, the Blackbirds return to competition in April, at the Pirate Invitational in Bedminster, N.J. from April 4-6.
