DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The LIU Brooklyn women's golf team is six strokes ahead of the field after the first round of the Northeast Conference Championship at the par-72 LPGA International after the first round on Friday.
The Blackbirds carded a 299 to close the first day in front of Saint Francis U., which shot a 305. Following the Red Flash are Robert Morris, Fairleigh Dickinson, Sacred Heart, Wagner, Central Connecticut and St. Francis Brooklyn.
Junior Brianna Maynard and sophomore Marisol Doglioli are currently in the top two spots, both finishing under par. Maynard shot a two-under 70 with four birdies to sit in first place and led the field in par-5 scoring and par-4 scoring. Doglioli had three birdies and is one stroke behind in second place, and averaged 3.90 in par-4 scoring on the day.
Junior Alice Boothroyd and sophomore Victoria Fagan are both tied for 11th, carding scores of 79. Both birdied the 10th hole to start out the back nine. Junior Cristina Felip rounds out the LIU contingent and stands in 28th with a first round score of 83.
Robert Morris' Haley Morell is in third with a one-over 73, while three Red Flash athletes and Wagner Ellen Nighbor are tied for fourth at 75.
LIU Brooklyn continues with round two tomorrow. Tee times for the Blackbirds begin at 9:25 a.m.
