LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback to Siena in a road match on Friday evening. Junior Jessica Montrose recorded eight saves in goal for the Blackbirds, who fell to 0-6-0 on the year.
Redshirt senior Caroline Kaplan had an early chance in the first minute of the match, but was stopped by Saints goalie Taylor Booth. Siena's first five shots were off the mark before its sixth, a header from Michelle Yanniello, found the back of the net to give the home team a one-goal advantage.
Siena had numerous opportunities to add to its lead but Montrose was up to the challenge on all three of the shots she faced over the duration of the first half.
In the 59th minute, sophomore Jenn Peters had a shot blocked by a Saints defender and an attempt by freshman Kerri Burns slid wide in the 61st minute. With the margin still at one with less than 10 minutes remaining, junior Lucy Gunton-Jones had a pair of corner kicks but the Blackbirds could not muster an effort toward net.
LIU Brooklyn returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 14 against Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia at 1:00 p.m.
