STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The LIU Brooklyn men's and women's track and field teams competed in the first meet of 2015 at the Penn State Relays on Saturday.
In the 500-meter run, Nichole Candelaria was the runner up, clocking in at 1:16.79. UMBC's Paulette Fogle just edged out the junior, winning the event in 1:16.08. Alea Stevens was 12th with a time of 1:19.31.
The Blackbirds team Josephine Watson, Bryanna Williams, Shakia Williams and Gabriella Ade-Onojobi then won the 200-meter relay in 1:42.16. In the 400-meter relay, LIU Brooklyn was fourth in 3:52.65, and in the 800-meter relay, the Blackbirds placed eighth.
On the men's side, Mikhail Williamson was the top-finisher for LIU in the 60-meter dash, clocking in at 7.04 to finish in 11th place. Andi Augustin was third in the 500-meter dash in 1:04.89.
LIU Brooklyn also won the men's 200-meter relay, as Alistair McLean, Brendon Rodney, Williamson and Kyle Bennett ran to time a time of 1:27.72 to take the top spot. Mica-Jonathan Petit-Homme, Rodney, Augustin and McLean were then victorious in the 400-meter relay, with a time of 3:14.38, 0.6 seconds ahead of second place Pittsburgh.
The Blackbirds also had success in the jumps, as Adam Walker-Khan won the long jump with a mark of 7.24m. Amir Armstrong was second in the triple jump at 14.59m.
Up next, the Blackbirds compete at the NYC Gotham Cup on Jan. 16 at the Armory.
