NEW YORK, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn men's and women's track and field teams enjoyed a successful day at the NYU Metro Team Challenge at the Armory on Friday.
Senior Brendon Rodney won the 60-meter dash, sophomore Adam Walker-Khan won the long jump, and senior Amir Armstrong was first in the triple jump for the Blackbirds.
Rodney ran to a time of 6.81 to claim victory, while teammate Tyquan Dukes was sixth overall in 6.97. In the following event, the 200-meter dash, Alistair McLean was second in 22.13 and Walker-Khan was ninth in 22.66. Mikhail Williamson also posted a top-10 finish, placing ninth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.61.
In the long jump, Walker-Khan leapt to a mark of 7.11m, 0.33m better than the second-place finisher. Teammate Vinh Le was third in 6.78m. Armstrong captured the triple jump in 14.91m, 0.21m ahead of second-place Joseph Marrini of Monmouth.
The women earned two first-place finishes as well. The 4x400-meter relay team of Elizabeth Adesanya, Stephanie Aidoo, Nichole Candelaria and Josephine Watson dominated the field by running to a time of 3.46.98, almost three seconds in front of second place Monmouth.
Kyaira Wright-Harmon was victorious in the triple jump with a leap of 11.92m. Her mark was 0.31m ahead of the field.
Bryanna Williams and Aidoo both qualified for finals in the 60-meter dash, with Williams earning fourth place in 7.73 and Aidoo taking sixth in 7.79. Cermone Davis was sixth in the 200-meter dash in 25.54, while Katrina Anderson was fifth in the 1000-meter run with a time of 2:57.38.
Gabrielle Ade-Onojobi was third in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.85, while Christina Abiola was third in the shot put with a throw of 12.14m.
Up next, the Blackbirds head to Boston for the Terrier Classic from Jan. 29 to Jan. 31. LIU Brooklyn will also be taking part in the Armory Invitational from Jan. 30-31.
