Day One Results
ELLINGTON, Conn. – The LIU Brooklyn men's golf team stands in 8th place after the first day of The Connecticut Cup, which is being held at the Ellington Ridge Country Club in Ellington, Conn. The Blackbirds improved by two strokes from the first to the second round, carding 598 on the first day of competition, just one stroke back from 7th.
Senior Stewart Gray finished his first round at two-under par, tying for 4th overall going into the second round. Gray is currently tied for 11th at the end of day one, having shot 75 in round two.
Alongside Gray in 11th place is junior Rodrigo Munoz, who took one stroke off his score in the second round. Both Gray and Munoz finished day one of the tournament at one-over par, only one shot behind 7th place.
Coming in third for LIU was junior Jake Spearpoint, who improved his second round score by two shots, tying for 42nd as he heads into the third round of play. Freshman Daniel Reale took an impressive four shots off of his score in the second round, carding 156 on the day. Rounding out the Blackbirds is freshman George Helsby, who finished the day shooting 162 for both rounds.
Texas Christian University currently leads the tournament at 12-under par, followed by Dartmouth at three-over par and UConn coming in third place, just two strokes behind second.
The competition continues at The Connecticut Cup tomorrow, with the first round of players scheduled to tee off at 8:30 a.m.
