BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn women's soccer team will travel to Sacred Heart for a Northeast Conference match against the Pioneers on Friday, Oct. 23, before hosting Robert Morris for Senior Day at LIU Field on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 12:00 p.m. The match will mark the final home contests for four Blackbirds: Erin Fish, Lucy Gunton-Jones, Jessica Montrose and Mariana Ruas.
LIU returned to the win column this past Sunday with a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Delaware State at LIU Field. Freshman Marian Awad scored her team-leading fifth goal of the year to tie the game in the 34th minute. After a scoreless second half, sophomore Ashley Drozd found the back of the net to give the Blackbirds their fourth non-conference win of the season.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Sacred Heart enters Friday's contest with a 4-11-0 record and is 1-5-0 in NEC play. The Pioneers are coming off a 2-1 loss to Mount St. Mary's last Sunday, and are led offensively by Dana Cosmedy. The senior midfielder has a team-best seven goals to rank third in the NEC and her 15 points also places her third in the league in that category. Talia Schwartz has started all 15 matches in goal for SHU and has recorded 70 saves to stand fourth in the NEC.
Robert Morris will take on Central Connecticut in a road contest on Friday before its tilt with LIU Brooklyn on Sunday. The Colonials are fourth in the NEC with nine points (3-1-0), and have played one less game than third-place Bryant (3-1-1). Cassie Raymond has six goals, leading a group of 11 different players that have found the back of the net this season. Chelsea De Jager has played and started in 13 matches, holding a 1.64 goals-against average.
