BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Senior defender Lucy Gunton-Jones registered a goal and added her Northeast Conference-leading seventh assist, but the LIU Brooklyn women's soccer team dropped a 4-2 decision to Robert Morris at LIU Field on Sunday afternoon. Junior Madison Gomez also found the back of the net for the Blackbirds, who honored Gunton-Jones and fellow seniors Erin Fish, Jessica Montrose and Mariana Ruas prior to the match.

The Colonials opened the scoring midway through the first half as Cassie Raymond flicked a shot from the top of the box past Montrose, who had moved off her line, to put the visitors up 1-0. The match moved into halftime with RMU holding a slim 7-6 advantage in shots.

LIU Brooklyn had a flurry of chances early in the second half, as consecutive corners from Gunton-Jones found the head of freshman Summer Sofer. Sofer, as she did towards the end of the match against Wagner, hit posts on both attempts. Fortunately for the Blackbirds, corner kicks were awarded following both attempts and on the third corner a foul was called on a Robert Morris defender in the box, resulting in a penalty kick.

Gunton-Jones took the chance from the spot and easily finished to tie the contest at 1-1. Less than four minutes later, however, Robert Morris re-took the lead when Lauren Sulkowski finished on a looping shot over Montrose. Another penalty kick was awarded in the 63rd minute, this time to the Colonials, and Erin Ritzer converted to give RMU a 3-1 lead.

The Blackbirds would not go down without a fight, however, and following a foul, Gunton-Jones sent a free kick into the box and found Gomez, who headed home her fourth goal of the year to pull the home squad to within one, 3-2. But RMU came back with its fourth goal of the match in the 85th minute to essentially put the contest out of reach.

LIU closed with a 16-15 edge in shots, including a team-high four from Sofer. Gomez and classmate Mia Chiatto added three attempts apiece.

The final contest of the 2015 season for the LIU Brooklyn women's soccer team will take place on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 11:00 a.m. against Bryant.
