Box Score SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The LIU Brooklyn women's soccer team concluded its 2015 campaign with a 0-0 draw with Bryant on Sunday afternoon. Both teams finished the contest with 19 shots, with freshman Marian Awad leading the way for the Blackbirds with a team-high eight attempts. Senior goalkeeper Jessica Montrose earned the shutout in the final match of her LIU career, and closed with nine saves.
The Blackbirds had a prime opportunity in the 12th minute as junior Madison Gomez hit the post with her shot. Gomez had another chance less than nine minutes later but was stopped by Bryant goalkeeper Kaylan Conrad.
With time running down in the opening period, freshman Summer Sofer had a shot denied by Conrad with less than 15 seconds on the clock. The contest moved to intermission scoreless as the Bulldogs held a slim 9-7 edge in shots. Montrose stopped four of them.
LIU Brooklyn had multiple opportunities early in the second half, earning a pair of corner kicks and totaling four shots over the first 11:43. The Bulldogs then had chances with time running down in the second half but could not find the target as the match moved to overtime.
In the first extra session, the Blackbirds had the only two shots as Gomez was stopped once again by Conrad and senior Mariana Ruas pushed a shot wide in the 99th minute. In the fourth and final period, play opened up and a total of eight shots were taken by both teams. Montrose made a pair of saves, including one with less than a minute remaining that kept the contest tied.
The match marked the final collegiate contests for four LIU Brooklyn players: Montrose, Ruas, Lucy Gunton-Jones and Erin Fish.
