BOSTON, Mass. – The LIU Brooklyn track and field men's and women's track and field teams competed at the last meet before the Northeast Conference Championships, the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Friday and Saturday. Brendon Rodney broke his own school record in the 200-meter dash while the men's 4x400-meter relay team set a new LIU mark that had stood for over three years.
The women's best finish came in the 4x400 relay, as Stephanie Aidoo, Cermorne Davis, Nichole Candelaria and Josephine Watson topped the 57-team field with a time of 3:43.48, just off their previous best time set in Boston in January.
Davis was the top individual finisher for the Blackbirds, placing 10th of 53 in the 500-meter dash in 1:14.62. Elizabeth Adesanya was 13th and Candeleria was 15th in 1:14.92 and 1:15.24, respectively. In the 400-meter dash, Aidoo was 12th in 56.20, her best time of the season and second on the NEC performance list.
For the men, Brendon Rodney continued his domination of the 200-meter dash, winning the event in 20.69, in a field of 202. His time broke his own LIU record and was the third fastest in the nation this season.
Andi Augustin came in a close fifth in the 500-meter dash in 1:04.33, his best time this season. Mica-Jonathan Petit-Homme posted a 13th place finish out of 190 competitors in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.90.
The Blackbirds closed out the day with a win in the 4x400 relay, winning by more than two seconds. Adam Walker-Khan, Mica-Jonathan Petit-Homme, Brendon Rodney and Alistair McLean combined for a time of 3:08.75, breaking the LIU record set in 2011 of 3:09.17. The time was also the best in the NEC this season.
LIU Brooklyn heads to Landover, Md. next weekend for the 2015 NEC Indoor Championships from Feb. 21 to Feb. 22 at the Prince George Sports Complex.
