HAMPTON, Va. - The LIU Brooklyn men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Hampton Relays on Saturday, hosted by Hampton University.
Christina Abiola was the top finisher for the Blackbirds, placing first in the shot put with a mark of 12.46m.
Starting things off for the women in the track events was Bryanna Williams, who placed 12th in the 100-meter dash in 12.12. Nichole Candelaria followed up with a third-place performance in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.50.
In the distance events, Katrina Anderson posted a second place finish in the 800-meter run in 2:11.77, while Esther Jean-Louis was seventh in the 1500 in 5:09.97.
Competing in the final individual track event for LIU was Brittany McLain, who was 10th in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:11.17. The Blackbirds' 4x400 relay squad was fourth overall in 3:58.86.
Kyaira Wright-Harmon turned in a number of successful performances in the jumps. She first placed third in the long jump with a mark of 5.64, before coming in second in the triple jump with a leap of 11.68m.
On the men's side, Adam Walker-Khan, Kyle Bennett and Darius Neely took the 18-20 spots in the 100-meter dash. Andi Augustin was seventh in the 800-meter run in 1:58.63, while Elijah Taylor and Airrin Davis were right behind in ninth and 10th. Daniel Gonzalez and Jonathan Pinero were seventh and eighth in the 1500-meter run.
In the triple jump, Walker-Khan led the Blackbirds with a second place finish with a mark of 14.97m. Amir Armstrong and Vinh Le were right behind in third and fourth with leaps of 14.82m and 14.30m.
Up next, the Blackbirds compete at the Wagner Quad Meet on April 15 in Staten Island, N.Y.
