Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at UConn Invitational

NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. - The LIU Brooklyn men's golf team placed fifth at the Til Duty Is Done Invitational hosted by UConn on Sunday afternoon.

The Blackbirds improved seven strokes from the first day, finishing with 611 overall. Hartford won the tournament, followed by UConn, Saint Peter's and Rhode Island. 

George Williams had the best day for the Blackbirds, carding a three-under 69 to finish in fifth overall with a two-day score of 146. He had four birdies and 13 parred holes. 

Junior Stewart Gray also improved, knocking two strokes off of his first-round score to shoot 74 on the day. He tied for 9th with 150 with one birdie and 13 pars.

Freshman Kyle Maihi was next for LIU with 156. He shot an 81to tie for 33th. Senior Rhys Jones was five strokes back with 161, after improving one stroke in the second round. 

Sophomore Jake Spearpoint made a seven stroke improvement, carding a 79 on day two to finish with 165. Playing as an individual, Rodrigo Munoz totaled 166 for the two rounds.

Up next, the Blackbirds compete at the Northeast Conference Championships beginning May 1 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
