Women’s Tennis Named Top Seed in Upcoming NEC Tournament

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn women's tennis team has claimed its first-ever top seed in the upcoming Northeast Conference Tennis Championships, it was announced by the conference office Monday. The tournament is set to commence on Friday, April 17 at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, NJ.  The tournament will be contested over three days in a single elimination format.

The Blackbirds are shooting for their third NEC championship title, and first since the 2010 season. LIU has earned a top-four seed in each of the last 16 years. Led by first-year head coach Rose Ketmayura and the 2014 NEC Player of the Year Sanne Louwers, the Blackbirds posted a 4-1 mark against NEC rivals, including wins over #2 Bryant and three-time defending champion Fairleigh Dickinson.  The Knights, who are seeded fifth, defeated LIU in the 2014 NEC Tournament final by a 4-0 score.

Play begins on Friday with quarterfinal round action.  The semifinals are slated for Saturday followed by the men's and women's title matches on Saturday.  Admission is free to the event.
