NCAA Championship Bracket
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn women's tennis team is heading to Austin, Texas, for the first round of the NCAA Championship Tournament, it was announced via the NCAA selection show Monday evening. The Blackbirds earned the conference's automatic bid for the third year in a row as 2019 Northeast Conference champions, and will take on No. 9 seed and host Texas, Saturday, May 4.
The four teams, including LIU, host Texas, Rice and Texas A&M, will face off at the Texas Tennis Center May 4-5. The winners of the day one matches will advance to the second round to be played on Sunday, May 5 in Austin.
The Longhorns, currently ranked No. 8 in the Oracle/ITA rankings, earned the No. 9 seed in the bracket and are making their 36th NCAA Championship appearance. The Big 12 Conference regular season champions, Texas went 18-4 this season, including an 8-1 record at home, but earned an at large bid to the NCAA tournament as they fell in the Big 12 Championship match to No. 20 Kansas.
Rice (16-7) will meet Texas A&M (22-7) in the other first-round match on Saturday at 8 a.m. ET. The two winners will play in the NCAA Second Round at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday, May 5.
