Green, Zamora Earn Major Awards; Trio Named to All-NEC Teams

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Senior Madison Green became the first LIU Brooklyn softball player in program history to win the Northeast Conference Golden Glove Award, while freshman Victoria Zamora picked up NEC Rookie of the Year honors as the NEC announced its award winners on Tuesday. In addition to the two major awards, graduate student Lauren Morizi and senior Nicole Archer earned First Team All-NEC honors for the first time in their respective careers, while Zamora was named to the second team.

Green played a spectacular second base for the Blackbirds in 2015, registering 115 assists and 123 putouts while committing just two errors in 49 games played. She is the first non-catcher to win the NEC's Golden Glove since 2011 and the first middle infielder to ever win the award.

In NEC play, the Tulare, Calif. product had an unblemished 1.000 fielding percentage in 16 contests, collecting 46 putouts and 37 assists. For her career, Green has had at least 100 assists in all four of her seasons at LIU Brooklyn and ranks third all-time in the category with 476.

Zamora burst onto the scene in her first season in downtown Brooklyn, ranking second on the team with a .309 batting average while starting 42 games at catcher and 48 overall. The Orange, Calif., product is also tied for second on the squad with five home runs and is third with 21 runs batted in. Her on-base percentage of .452 is tops on the team and ranks just outside LIU Brooklyn's top ten single-season marks.

During NEC play, Zamora has stepped up her play, hitting .415 to rank fifth amongst all NEC players and first among freshmen. She leads the NEC in conference-only on-base percentage at .556, is eighth in slugging percentage at .683 and has been hit by a pitch 18 times, the 12th-most in the NCAA this year.

A second team All-NEC selection two seasons ago, Morizi collects first-team honors in her last season with the Blackbirds. The graduate student shortstop leads the team and ranks among the league leaders with 15 doubles, and moved to the top of LIU Brooklyn's career doubles list earlier this season. Morizi has 51 doubles over two-plus seasons with the Blackbirds, four more than previous leader Vanessa Mejia, a four-year letterwinner from 2005-08.

Saving her best for the final month of the year, Morizi enters NEC Tournament play riding a 10-game hitting streak. Over the stretch, she has batted .438 with four doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs. Morizi hit .370 against NEC teams and went 3-for-7 with a double, two home runs and five RBIs off 2014 NEC Pitcher of the Year Laura Messina in LIU's key doubleheader sweep of Central Connecticut on the final day of the regular season.

One of the top power hitters in school history, Archer picks up her first All-NEC honor as she leads LIU Brooklyn with eight home runs and 29 runs batted in over 47 games this season. Her .290 batting average puts her third on the team while her five home runs in NEC play is tied for third among league players.

Also the team's leading pitcher, the Coral Springs, Fla., native has won seven games this season in the circle, including five during NEC play. The righthander has held NEC opponents to a .222 batting average, the fifth-best mark in the conference, and her five wins in NEC play ranks her sixth.

LIU Brooklyn, the fourth seed in this year's NEC Tournament, will continue its season on Thursday, May 7 against top-seeded Robert Morris. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., with live video available on NECFrontRow.com.
