DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2019 Division I Softball Awards and All-ECAC selections Thursday, and three members of the LIU Brooklyn softball team were recognized. Junior Patricia Griffin, freshman Elena Valenzuela and sophomore Kiana Cisneros all earned second team All-ECAC honors for the first time in their careers.
Valenzuela added to her growing list of accolades in her first season in Brooklyn. The freshman was also the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Year, and earned both first team All-NEC and first team NFCA All-Region honors. She finished the year with a 19-4 record on the mound, a 2.19 ERA and 81 strikeouts in over 160 innings pitched. She led the league in wins, ERA, complete games (17) and shutouts (7), and ranked second in innings pitched and opponent batting average.
Griffin, who also earned first team All-NEC honors, finished her junior season hitting .353 in the lead off spot for LIU, and led the team in hits (65) and stolen bases (8), finishing second in runs scored (37). She also was named second team NFCA All-Region.
And sophomore Cisneros led the team in batting average (.376) and was named to the NEC's All-Tournament team, after leading LIU to the NEC championship game. She hit .533 over the five games, going 8-for-15 with four runs scored.
