BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn head softball coach Roy Kortmann has announced the addition of three student-athletes to the program for the 2015-16 academic year. Evie Claussell (Hamilton, N.J.) and Schae Dickson (Wilmington, N.C.) will join the Blackbirds as freshmen, while Erynn Sobieski (Logan Township, N.J.) comes to Brooklyn as a sophomore transfer from the University at Albany.
A middle infielder, Claussell was an All-Mid-Atlantic Prep League First Team selection at The Peddie School in 2015. She registered six doubles, a triple and 15 runs batted in as a senior, and helped the Falcons to an appearance in the New Jersey State Prep A Softball Championship in 2014.
Kortmann on Claussell: "Evie is an excellent contact hitter and has the versatility to play several spots on the field."
Dickson is a power-hitting corner infielder who was named First Team All-Mideastern Conference as a junior after hitting .397 with eight doubles and 31 runs batted in. As a senior, Dickson earned a spot on the North Carolina Softball Coaches Association 4A All-State Team.
Kortmann on Dickson: "Schae is strong kid who can swing it, and we look forward to integrating her into our offense."
Sobieski finished her first season at Albany in 2015, leading the Great Danes in earned run average (2.85) while accumulating 10 victories in 115.1 innings pitched. The 5-10 right-hander was named to the America East All-Rookie Team after going 4-2 with a 2.38 ERA in league contests.
Kortmann on Sobieski: "Erynn is a big, strong arm who can give us innings and will be a solid addition to our pitching staff."
The trio of newcomers will join Amanda Domingo (Carlsbad, Calif.), Tricia Griffin (Marlton, N.J.), Samantha Offenback (Levittown, Pa.) and Tallie Woodson (Granada Hills, Calif.) as members of the 2015 recruiting class.
