BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn women's soccer team looks to remain unbeaten at LIU Field in 2015 as it hosts Siena on Friday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m. Two days later, the Blackbirds will take a short trip to the Bronx to take on Fordham in a non-conference affair beginning at 1:00 p.m.
LIU won its home opener over Saint Peter's, 5-2, on Sept. 4, as four different Blackbirds found the back of the net. Junior Madison Gomez registered one of the goals and recorded three assists to match the program's single-game record set last season by current senior Lucy Gunton-Jones. Senior Erin Fish also scored her first collegiate goal, which proved to be the game-winner as LIU Brooklyn scored three times in the second half to break a 2-2 tie.
In their last match at American, the Blackbirds allowed a pair of second-half goals in a 2-0 loss. Gomez, along with classmates Chloe Amaradio and Tori Shinkowitz had shots on goal in the match against the Eagles. For the season, Gomez leads the team with five points and three assists while redshirt sophomore Allegra Ondrejka has a team-best two goals. Senior goalkeeper Jessica Montrose has made 38 saves and has started and played full time in all five matches.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
On Friday, the Blackbirds will take on a Siena team who enters the weekend with a 3-1-2 record. After tying a pair and dropping a 4-1 decision to Hartford, the Saints have won three straight matches including a 3-2 victory over Vermont on Wednesday. Madison Vasquez leads the team with three goals and seven points and Liz Rogan has started and played all six matches in their entirety.
Fordham's only match of the weekend will be hosting LIU Brooklyn on Sunday. The Rams won the Charleston Cup in South Carolina last weekend, defeating the College of Charleston and the Citadel by a combined 6-0. Jessica Widmann has four goals and an assist this season, two of which came against Citadel. Megan Fitzgerald is the team's primary goalkeeper and has a miniscule 0.67 goals-against average.
UP NEXT
Following this weekend, the Blackbirds will have three more non-conference matches on the road at Maine (Sept. 19), Saint Joseph's (Sept. 25) and NJIT (Sept. 28) before opening Northeast Conference play at home against Saint Francis U. on Friday, Oct. 2.
