NEWARK, N.J. - The LIU Brooklyn women's soccer team finishes up the main part of its non-conference portion of its regular season on Tuesday night with a match at NJIT. Kickoff from Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Blackbirds have one more non-conference tilt on the schedule, with a home match against Delaware State slated for Oct. 18.
The Blackbirds enter with a 2-7-0 record and are looking to snap a five-match losing skid that was extended on Friday, Sept. 25 with a 2-0 loss to Saint Joseph's. LIU Brooklyn is led offensively by junior Madison Gomez, who is tied for the team lead with two goals and three assists.
Junior Tori Shinkowitz, redshirt sophomore Allegra Ondrejka and freshman Marian Awad all have two goals apiece, while senior Lucy Gunton-Jones has matched Gomez in the assist category.
Defensively, redshirt freshman Erin Harbison has started each of the last three matches and has accumulated 35 saves to go along with a 1.81 goals-against average.
The Highlanders similarly have dropped each of their last five matches, with the most recent defeat coming in their Atlantic Sun opener against USC Upstate, 2-0. Neema Liverpool has a team-best three goals on the year while Samantha Bersett has started each of the first eight games of the season.
Last season, LIU defeated NJIT at LIU Field, 1-0, with Gomez scoring the game-winning goal in the 14th minute. Senior goalkeeper Jessica Montrose recorded two saves to earn the shutout victory.
