MOON TOWNSHIP, PA. – LIU Brooklyn women's soccer fell to the Robert Morris Colonials, 1-0, Friday afternoon. The Blackbirds drop to 1-12-0, 0-4-0 NEC with the loss.
Jane Schleicher scored the match's lone goal in the 8th minute.
LIU Brooklyn created chances early. In the 3rd minute, senior
Madison Gomez directed a shot on goal, which was denied by Colonials keeper Makenzie Shearson (eight saves). Redshirt junior
Jenn Peters gathered the rebound and fired a shot, from point blank range, which was also stopped by the RMU keeper.
After the Blackbirds pressure, Schleicher received a pass from Kasia Bak, and beat sophomore keeper
Aline Allmann (three saves) with a shot.
LIU Brooklyn, which outshot Robert Morris 12-6 in the first half, looked to even the score in the 32nd minute. Senior
Ashley Drozd propelled a shot, which was denied by Shearson. Then a minute later, Peters had a shot stopped.
Gomez, who led the team with five shots, almost tied the match in the 45th minute when she rang a shot off the crossbar.
In the 61st and 62nd minutes, the Blackbirds earned a pair of corner kicks. On the first, senior
Brittany Galske's try was stopped by a Colonial defender at the back post. Then, Peters set up junior
Natalie Henderson, who hit the post.
LIU, which outshot RMU 19-11, came back with another chance in the 71st minute, but freshman
Dana Wiesmore had her shot stopped.
The Blackbirds' offense pressured RMU the whole match, but couldn't put an opportunity past Shearson.
LIU Brooklyn travels to take on the Saint Francis University Red Flash Sunday, Oct. 16. Kickoff is slated for noon.
