BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn field hockey team will host two games in its final home weekend of the 2016 season. The Blackbirds will welcome Rider to LIU Field, Thursday, September 20 at 6 p.m., and Sacred Heart, Sunday, October 23 at 4 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blackbirds are coming off a loss on the road. Friday, LIU fell to Siena, 6-2. The two goals were the most the Blackbirds have scored in a game so far. Freshman Casey Carrigan scored the first goal of the game for LIU, on an assist from Jordan Laytos, to make it 5-1. The duo also combined on the second goal, seven minutes later, as Carrigan fed Latos, who scored to cut the lead to 5-2.
SCOUTING THE BRONCS
Rider enters Thursday's game at 8-7 overall, 2-2 in the MAAC. The Broncs are coming off a 3-2 loss to Monmouth, after a two game win streak that saw Rider beat Bryant (2-1) and Sacred Heart (3-0).
Rider is led by freshman Daane Koch, who has 10 goals and five assists so far this season. Senior Carlie Spaeder is next on the team with six goals, while Carlota Alsina leads the squad with seven assists so far this season.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Sacred Heart is still looking for its first win of the year. The Pioneers are 0-13 so far, and 0-3 in the MAAC. They will take on Fairfield on the road Friday before coming to Brooklyn. In conference play, SHU has lost to Bryant (5-2), Rider (3-0) and Siena (2-1, in a shootout).
Sophomore Rebecca Hauser leads the offense with four goals so far, while Nichole Tolli has two goals and two assists for the Pioneers. Sophomore goalie Emily Degennaro has made 64 saves this season, in 12 starts for Sacred Heart.
