BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Sophomore Rasmus Hansen scored two goals leading LIU Brooklyn men's soccer to a 2-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson University on senior day Friday evening at LIU Field. The Blackbirds improve to 10-4-2, 4-1-1 NEC.  LIU finished the 2016 regular season with a 6-0-0 record at home.

LIU controlled possession from the opening whistle. Hansen directed a header on net, which was stopped by FDU keeper Julian Murillo in the 5th minute. Hansen came back with another try two minutes later, and again, Murillo (nine saves) was there to make the stop.

The Blackbirds' offense came back with pressure minutes later. Sophomore Filip Nordstrom sent a shot, which was blocked away by a Knights defender in the 17th minute. Less than a minute later, Nordstrom crossed a pass to Hansen, who fired a shot into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

FDU (3-9-3,1-2-3 NEC) created a chance to tie in the 33rd minute.  David Bokumabi had a shot stopped by redshirt senior Logan Keys, who finished the day with three saves.

The LIU offense continued to generate opportunities in the second half. Sophomore Simen Hestnes  had a shot denied by the Knight's keeper in the 46th minute. In the 51st minute, Hansen propelled a drive that hit off the post.

Hansen, who led LIU with nine shots, added an insurance tally in the 74th minute. After a FDU foul, the sophomore drilled a 25-yard free kick into the net to make it 2-0.

The Blackbirds, who out-shot the Knights 19-7, continued to generate chances, but couldn't net another insurance marker.

LIU concludes regular season play Sunday, Nov. 6 when it heads to Brooklyn Bridge Park to face off against crosstown rival St. Francis Brooklyn. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
