DOVER, Del.- Redshirt junior Jenn Peters scored two goals and senior Ashley Drozd netted her first tally of the season leading LIU Brooklyn women's soccer to a 3-1 victory over the Delaware State Hornets Thursday evening. The Blackbirds improve to 1-10-0,0-2-0 NEC with the win. The win was head coach Scott McLaughlin's first with the program.

The Hornets (3-8-0) opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a goal from Ayanna Smith.

Delaware State, which outshot LIU 6-4 in the first half, came back with a chance in the 34th minute. Alexa Gibbs generated a try which was denied by junior keeper Erin Harbison (seven saves).

The Hornets started the second half with an opportunity. Elise Pratt sent a shot on goal which was stopped by Harbison.

After the chance, LIU, which outshot Delaware St. 12-10, responded with pressure. Senior Madison Gomez, who recorded three assists, stole the ball and found Peters, who fired a shot from 25 yards into the net to tie the match at one.

Gomez set up another goal in the 69th minute finding Drozd, who scored her second career game-winning goal against the Hornets, to make it 2-1.

Peters, who led the team with eight shots, scored her team-high fourth goal of the season, off a pass from Gomez, to make it 3-1 in the 75th minute.

The LIU defense limited Delaware State's chances and held on to the win.

The Blackbirds return to action Sunday, Oct. 9 when they host Central Connecticut State. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m.
