BROOKLYN, N.Y.- LIU Brooklyn women's soccer fell to Central Connecticut State University, 2-0, Sunday evening. The Blackbirds drop to 1-11-0, 0-3-0 NEC with the loss.
 
Alex Zampini scored in the first half, and Carla Jackson netted an insurance marker in the second half for the Blue Devils.
 
CCSU took the first four shots of the match. In the 20th minute, Emily Hogan had a shot denied by sophomore keeper Aline Allmann (four saves), but Zampini gathered the rebound and put it into the net.
 
LIU Brooklyn answered with a scoring chance in the 33rd minute. Redshirt junior Jenn Peters rang a shot off the crossbar.
 
Peters came back with another opportunity in the 44th minute but her try was stopped by Blue Devils' keeper Nicki Turley (two saves).
 
Central Connecticut, which outshot LIU 11-5, continued its offensive pressure and generated two corner kicks in the beginning of the second half. On both attempts, Shauny Alterisio fired shots wide.
 
The Blackbirds created another chance in the 50th minute when freshman Dana Wiesmore propelled a shot over the net.
 
The Blue Devils struck again in the 61st minute. Carla Jackson received a pass from Kelly Halligan, shook a defender, and scored to make it 2-0.
 
Senior Madison Gomez looked to cut into CCSU's lead but her try, on a give and go with sophomore Marian Awad, was turned away by Turley in the 84th minute.
 
LIU Brooklyn travels to Robert Morris to play the Colonials Friday, Oct. 14. Kickoff is slated for noon.
