BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn volleyball team heads south this weekend, to take on Saint Francis U. and Robert Morris, in two games over two days, Saturday, October 8 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, October 9 at 5 p.m.
SCOUTING THE RED FLASH
Saint Francis dropped two Northeast Conference matches last weekend, and stand at 4-13 overall, 0-4 in the NEC. The Flash fell to Sacred Heart Saturday, before dropping a five-set heartbreaker to FDU Sunday, after leading the Knights, 2-0.
The Red Flash is led by a trio of outside hitters on offense, as senior Breanna Opera (2.71), junior Kelsey Roush (2.55) and junior Emily Marcinowski (2.26) all average more than two kills per set on offense. Defensively, junior Sophia Esposito is the team's top blocker and second in the NEC, with 53.0 so far this season, for a 1.18 blocks per set average. LIbero Jenna Veres is one of the strongest in the conference, with a 5.06 digs per set average, second overall.
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS
Defending NEC Champions Robert Morris come into this weekend 7-12 overall, and 1-3 in conference action so far. The Colonials have lost to CCSU (3-1), Bryant (3-1) and Sacred Heart (3-0), beating only FDU so far, 3-0. RMU is one of the top defensive teams in the conference, as they're second in team blocks (2.20 per set) and first in total digs (17.47 digs per set).
Senior outside Arden Fisher is the main threat for the Colonials. She's third in the NEC in kills, with a 3.20 kills per set average, and also first in digs, with a 5.20 digs per set average. Senior middle blocker Leah Dunivan is strong at the net for RMU, with a 1.04 blocks per set average, third in the NEC.
