COLUMBUS, Ohio – The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball fell to the No. 7/8 nationally ranked Ohio State Buckeyes at Value City Arena Saturday afternoon, 113-54. With the loss, LIU moves to 0-3 this year, while OSU improves to 3-1.
The home team jumped out to an 11-0 lead quickly in the first quarter. Sophomore
Drew Winter got the Blackbirds on the board at 8:13 with a jumper, but LIU struggled to get an offense going in the first quarter. Senior
Shanovia Dove added a three pointer at 2:59, and another three by Winter as the clock expired in the first quarter would be all the Blackbirds could get going.
LIU was able to score more points in each progressive quarter. At the start of the second quarter, down 35-8, Winter hit a jumper, followed by one from freshman
Seneca Richards to bump the Blackbird point total to 12. Dove and freshman
Victoria Powell would both drain threes as the quarter ran down, and Ohio State took a 59-20 lead into halftime.
Quarter three saw senior
Brianna Farris hit two more threes for LIU, and Powell had her second of the game with 4:42 left to play in the third.
Dionne Coe had a three, was fouled and made the free throw to help LIU get out of the third quarter down, 89-36.
The fourth quarter saw LIU score its more points of the day, including threes from Farris and Winter. Richards would hit two more treys to help the Blackbirds, but Ohio State took the eventual win, 113-54.

NOTES FROM THE NEST
- Sophomore Drew Winter led the Blackbirds with 12 points and four assists. Senior Brianna Farris had ten points, while senior Shanovia Dove had nine points and four boards in the loss. Freshman Gabrielle Caponegro had a career-high eight rebounds for LIU.
- As a team, LIU had 12 three-pointers, but struggled overall, shooting 31.3 percent from the field.
- Sierra Calhoun led all players with 22 points, while Kelsey Mitchell had 21 for the Buckeyes.
- OSU forced 28 Blackbird turnovers, including 18 steals, and scored 29 points off of those turnovers.
