BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn men's golf team was picked to finish in fourth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced the league on Tuesday.
Bryant was selected to win the title with six first-place votes, followed by defending champion Robert Morris, who received three first-place votes. Fairleigh Dickinson is in the third spot, with the Blackbirds predicted to come in fourth. Saint Francis University was in fifth, while Central Connecticut sits in sixth. In seventh was Wagner, followed by Sacred Heart in eighth and St. Francis College in ninth.
The Blackbirds competed in four tournaments during the fall, with their best finish at the Connecticut Cup in October, where they finished ninth. Junior Rodrigo Munoz had the lowest score of the tournament for LIU, finishing at three-over par, tying for 15th in a field of 90 golfers. Just one shot back from Munoz was senior Stewart Gray at four-over par. Freshman George Helsby turned out the best finish in the fall for the Blackbirds, placing sixth at the Binghamton Invitational in October, shooting a personal best 69 in round one.
The men open their spring schedule in Daytona Beach, Fla. At the LPGA International. LIU will be competing in the Gary Freeman Spring Invitational Wednesday, March 2 through Friday, March 4 before hosting the Lonnie Barton Invitational at the same course the following week.
