BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Northeast Conference announced the results of the women's Preseason Coaches' Poll on Tuesday. The LIU Brooklyn women's golf team was picked to finish fifth this spring.
Defending champion Fairleigh Dickinson was the unanimous choice to reclaim the NEC title in 2016 with six votes. Saint Francis University sits in second with one vote, by virtue that coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team. Wagner was selected third, while Sacred Heart was fourth. The Blackbirds are predicted to come in fifth followed by Central Connecticut in sixth and St. Francis Brooklyn in seventh.
The women played in four tournaments this fall, with their best finish at the Bucknell Invitational placing 10th as a team. Sophomore Lauren Rutherglen holds the lowest round for the women going into the spring season, boasting a four-over par 75 at the Yale Invitational.
LIU will kick-off the season at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. hosting the Lonnie Barton Invitational on Monday, March 7 and Tuesday, March 8.
