BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn sophomore Erynn Sobieski was named the Northeast Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon, after a number of impressive showings over her first two weeks with the Blackbirds.
In seven appearances in teh circle, Sobieski posted a 2.89 ERA and picked up a pair of complete game victories against LIU's typically challenging non-conference competition. She has walked just two batters and struck out 24 in 36.1 innings pitched.
In the Blackbirds 6-1 win over Valparaiso on February 13, the righthander allowed a lone earned run on six hits over sevenĀ innings. Sobieski also helped snap a four-game losing streak to CAA power Hofstra, retiring 12 straight batters and allowing just three singles through the first six innings of play with four strikeouts in a 3-2 complete game effort.
Also included in her impressive early-season showings was a season-opening performance that helped the Blackbirds to a 6-4 win over Big Ten opponent Illinois. The Logan Township, N.J. product allowed just three earned runs over five innings to one of the top offensive teams in the country from a season ago.
LIU Brooklyn returns to action at the prestigious Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. The Blackbirds will take on No. 10 Georgia in its first game of the event on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 6:00 p.m. PT.
