ORLAND, Fla. – The LIU Brooklyn baseball team finished off its series with the University of Central Florida Sunday morning, falling to the Knights, 12-7. With the loss, the Blackbirds stand at 3-10 overall this season.

The Blackbirds got on the board first Sunday morning, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Senior Brian Lamboy led off getting hit by a pitch, and junior Tommy Jakubowski had a single and stole second base to put two runners in scoring position. Freshman Andy Camilo brought one run home with his RBI ground-out, and freshman Kyle Ruth singled through the right side in the next at bat to bring home the second run, putting LIU up, 2-0.

UCF would take the lead in the bottom of the second, scoring three runs on five hits to go up, 3-2, but the lead wouldn't last. The Blackbirds added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning. Junior Charles Misiano led off with a single, and Lamboy reached on an error. Both base runners advanced on a wild pitch, and sophomore Dom Paiotti was walked to load the bases. Jakubowski helped two runs score on the next at bat, with a fielder's choice to the pitcher that he bobbled, and the Blackbirds were up, 4-2.

The run scoring continued into the bottom of the frame, when a UCF player hit a grand slam to put the home team up, 7-4. The Knights would add two more runs in the bottom of the seventh on RBI singles to make it 9-4.

LIU continued to battle back, and scored three runs in the top of the eight. Frehsman Edward Modica had a lead-off walk, and sophomore Andrew Turner singled to follow up. Lamboy's double down the left field line would score one, and one out later, Jakubowski's single would score Turner to make it 9-6. Freshman Kyle Ruth had another single to score a run, and LIU had cut the gap to 9-7.

UCF added three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, however, on a two-RBI single, and a sacrifice fly, taking the game by a final score of 12-7.

Sophomore Cory Hart (0-1) had the loss on the mound in 4.0 innings of work. Senior Brian Lamboy went 2-for-4 at the plat with an RBI and three runs scored, while junior Tommy Jakubowski went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. Freshman Kyle Ruth was 2-for-5 with two RBI, while sophomore Andrew Turner was 2-for-2 with a run scored.

Up next, the Blackbirds travel south for their final weekend on the road, taking on George Mason in a three-game series, Friday, March 18 through Sunday, March 20.
